Test yourself - Sun vs. Earth
How do they compare in size?
Our model sun measures three inches in diameter. Below we painted five circles to represent planet Earth. Select the circle which you think depicts Earth's size when compared to our three-inch sun. Lift board to check you answer.
Can you imagine great distances?
How far is 93 million miles, the distance from Earth to Sun? This arrow leads to a panel displaying five white numbers and our three-inch Sun. Look at the panel and estimate which number represents Earth's location in relation to our model Sun. You can test yourself be pressing green numbered buttons on the right; green numbers correspond to white panel numbers you will hear either a chime (correct answer) or buzzer (try again).
Moving through and out of our Solar System. . . Mercury and Venus lie between Earth and Sun. Think about where you would locate these planets on our panel before pressing buttons below. Small lights will glow to mark each planet's position. |
