Northern forest

Cool, dry,  with heavy snow.

Shallow rooted spruce and fir anchor themselves in loose, dry glacial sand. A mostly evergreen carpet of low growing plants blankets and stabilizes the fragile forest floor. Insulated by heavy snow, little frost forms in soils.
