The 22nd Festival of India will be on Saturday, October 3, 2009

Malnutrition is a prevalent and serious problem for India's poorest children, as shown in this NY Times video, with more information in their accompanying article. SHAMA works to help women learn ways to earn a living and support their families.

Girl being vaccinatedSHAMA, Inc. is committed to empower women and families, primarily in India, without regard for religion, race, caste or creed, through programs of our own and in partnership with like-minded organizations.

Included in an overview of the programs in which SHAMA, Inc. engages are:

  • Women's and children's education--general education, health education, and AIDS awareness.

  • Activism for women's rights and empowerment.

  • Micro loans to initiate income-generating projects for women and communities.

  • Financial assistance for  medical care; building schools, libraries, latrines, centers, and homes; and village development.

  • Events in our own local community serve to foster awareness of the culture of the Subcontinent of India and to celebrate our connections with her people.

Donations to SHAMA, Inc. are used to further our charitable work in India, making a significant difference for hundreds of families.
