Part of a national organization established in 1972, the UW-SP chapter of AISES was formally organized
in 1995.  At UW-SP, AISES has been very active in promoting discussion of cultural issues and concerns,
encouraging Native American students to pursue studies in the fields of science and engineering with a
sense of integrity, balance, and service to tribal communities.  AISES members have been active participants
in the AISES national conference, which is held at various areas of the U.S. on an annual basis.  Several Native
American students at UW-SP have been awarded AISES scholarships in recent years, as well as offers of
internships and professional employment.
