Information Technology Units
Administrative Information Systems
The primary role of Administrative Information Systems is to
analyze, implement and maintain administrative applications. AIS
works with administrative areas to deliver secure campus-wide
decision support systems with an emphasis on efficiency,
convenience, and timeliness of web based delivery of information and
services.
The College Support Team (CST) consists of Information Technology
employees who work directly for the Colleges. Each person
seeks to meet the technology needs specific to that teaching and
learning environment.
Information Technology provides over 700 computers in student
computer labs in every academic building, in the DawgNet kiosks in
both academic and non-academic buildings and in computer labs in
each residence hall. These labs offer necessary software for courses
and homework, as well as Internet access, laser printing and
scanning resources. Some labs have multimedia equipment for
digitizing audio and video. The labs supported by IT are kept
up-to-date with funding from the campus General Computer Access
Grant, Lab Modernization Grants, the Student Technology Fee and
Residential Living funding for hardware, staffing, and support for
residence hall labs. The balance of funding came from the IT budget.
The Help Desk provides an effective primary point of contact for
computing and technology related problems and questions for the
UW-Stevens Point campus. We strive to assist, support and guide
faculty, staff and students to better do their jobs utilizing
Information Technology resources
Information Technology Purchasing coordinates the ordering,
receiving and dispatching of all new hardware and software;
processes hardware warranty repairs for computers, printers and
miscellaneous IT products; provides information, education,
evaluations and recommendations to campus regarding hardware and
software technology products; maintains the proper billing of
products and performs other support tasks such as the coordination
of project and grant programs.
Network & Infrastucture
The Network Services area provides support to the campus network
infrastructure and implements and supports the services, servers,
and software of institution’s technology infrastructure. This area
is continually challenged with increasing demand for bandwidth and
security enhancements along with maintenance of network availability
and Quality-of-Service. Downtime during the last academic year due
to DoS attacks and Internet viruses and worms was again held to a
minimum by diligent monitoring and quick response of the Network
Services team
ResNet is residential networking for students who live in our
residence halls. Our service provides access to the UWSP
computer network from residence hall rooms for checking e-mail,
browsing the Inernet, and using other UWSP network resources.
The ResNet Support Team will help both resident students and
off-campus students with troubleshooting problems, disinfecting
viruses and reloading software when the need arises.
It is the mission of the Information Security Office to support
the goals of the University by assuring the availability, integrity,
and confidentiality of all information we use to do university
business.
In order to accomplish this mission, the Information Security
Office's work involves:
- Establishing coordination and encouraging cooperation
within the university towards greater computer security.
- Investigating computer system intrusions.
- Increasing awareness of information security
responsibilities.
The TLRN provides one-on-one faculty support and consultation,
and small group workshops. The TLRN also partners with UWSP's Center
for Academic Excellence to offer a summer curricular redesign
program for faculty wishing to move their face-to-face courses
online.
The goal of the Telephone Support Office is to provide quality,
cost-effective telephone service to faculty, staff, and students on
the UWSP campus
Our creative team produces web and multimedia resources for
university faculty, staff, and departments. We're the folks you can
come to when you need that old web site punched up; an audio lecture
stream added to your course page; a new recruitment DVD authored and
prepared for distribution to your prospective students; or maybe a
video of how to find your office on UWSP's campus.
Workstation & Endpoint Technology
The Workstation Support Team is responsible for installing and
maintaining over 2,500 computers and related devices. In addition,
they install and support countless computer lab, department, and
personal printers.
