Medical Insurance
International students are required to carry health and accident insurance
for the duration of their sojourns in the United States.
The ISSO partners with Student Assurance to offer a comprehensive, low-cost
health and accident insurance policy which includes repatriation coverage.
This coverage is mandatory for all F-1 students: outside policies are not
allowed.
The UWSP insurance policy for international students provides coverage on a
semester-by-semester basis (including summer break). Insurance premiums are due
before students may register for classes. New students pay their first
semester's premium during orientation and before registering for their first
semester courses.
The UWSP insurance policy provides coverage nationwide. As is common in the
United States, this policy does not include coverage for routine dental or
vision care. Emergency dental and vision care are covered by the policy.
Depending upon the specifics of their sponsorships, J-1 students &
scholars may be granted a waiver to substitute a non-UWSP insurance policy for
UWSP's regular coverage. Waiver determinations are made by the ISSO on a
case-by-case basis and are not subject to appeal.
Questions pertaining to student insurance requirements should be addressed to
the ISSO.
