Responsibilities--Constitution
(1) Review the methods and instruments to be used to test and assess general education;
(2) Review and recommend to the vice chancellor/provost the approval of department’s proposed methods and instruments to be used in discipline-specific assessment;
(3) Inform departments of changes in assessment requirements imposed by the UW System and accrediting agencies;
(4) Serve as a resource to departments regarding assessment issues (e.g., new testing instruments, changing perceptions of assessment, assessment efforts of peer institutions);
(5) Review the annual institutional report on assessment prepared by the vice chancellor/provost’s office for the UW System;
(6) Determine whether the assessment process is improving teaching and learning at UWSP;
(7) Perform other related duties assigned to it by the Senate, the Executive Committee and the Academic Affairs Committee.
Responsibilities--Assessment Plan
The Assessment Subcommittee with the aid of the Director of Institutional Research will collect, analyze and report assessment data. The role of the Assessment Subcommittee will be to:
1.
develop the policies and procedures for undergraduate assessment;
2. assist departments in selecting and developing appropriate assessment techniques;
3. select, develop, and administer institutional level assessment procedures and instruments consonant with UWSP's Mission;
4. oversee compilation of assessment data;
5. assist departments as they update and review their assessment efforts;
6. integrate department and general education assessment data into an annual assessment report;
7. address deficiencies in the assessment process;
8. refine goals, objectives and outcomes;
9. alert appropriate faculty committees about curricular problems revealed by general education assessment; and
10. promote assessment through activities such as sponsoring workshops and forums, developing a web-site, holding an assessment day, publicizing assessment activities and results and meeting with administrators.
The subcommittee will NOT
1. conduct program reviews;
2. evaluate programs or courses;
3. assess the worth of units/departments/programs on the basis of assessment data submitted.
