Setup VPN in Mac OS X (10.7)

In order to make a home computer connect to certain UWSP assets via an ISP other than UWSP’s modems, you must make a Virtual Private Network VPN connection. While you are connected via VPN, you will not be able to browse any web sites outside of the university. The VPN server that is directing traffic will not allow any network traffic to browse the internet. You should, however, be able to browse uwsp.edu web sites.

  1. Make certain you are online with your service provider.
  2. Open Settings.

  3. Open Network

  4. Click the Lock to allow changes and click the + to add a new connection.

  5. On the select the interface screen enter the following:
    • Interface = VPN
    • VPN Type = PPTP
    • Service Name = VPN (PPTP)
    • Click Create

  6. Select the VPN (PPTP) Connection and enter the following:
    • Server Address = vpn.uwsp.edu
    • Account Name = your UWSP logon name (ex. spoin111@uwsp.edu)
    • click Authentication Settings.

  7. On the User Authentication screen select Password and enter your UWSP password.

  8. Click OK
  9. Click Apply.
