UPDATE:  All services were restored around 8:45 pm on Tuesday, September 27th.

Incident: Unplanned Network Service Outage

Incident Start: Tuesday, September 27th around 1:00 pm

Impact: UWSP faculty, staff, and students are unable to access a variety of network services,  additionally logging on to a campus computer may take longer than expected.   Below includes a list of known services currently affected, please note this is not a complete list and service availability may be intermittent. 

Resolution: UWSP Technical Operations Engineers are currently working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.   Additional updates will be posted as more information becomes available.

​UPDATE:  This issue was resolved around 2:20 pm.  End-users are now able to log on to D2L and My UW System. 

Incident : D2L and myUWSystem - End-users Unable to Log on

Incident Start: Tuesday, January 5th at 1:20 pm
 
Impact: When faculty members or students try to log on the D2L or MyUWSystem page they receive an "authentication failure" error. 
 
Resolution: UWSP technicians are currently looking into the issue, An updates will be posted once thise service is again available.

Network Outage in Trainer Natural Resources Building

​Incident: Network Outage in the TNR building

Incident Start:  Unknown, first reported to the Help Desk at 8:40 pm Thursday, October 29th.
 
Impact:  Users will be unable to access campus network  resources or access the Internet.
 
Resolution:  The issue was resolved at approximately 8:15 am when UWSP technical engineers discovered a failed UPS on the master network switch for the TNR building.  The switch was rerouted to an alternate UPS which has resolved the issue.

MyPoint Website Outage Information

​Incident:  MyPoint.uwsp.edu was unavailable past normal scheduled network downtime (4-7 am Wednesday mornings)

Incident Start:  7:00 am Wednesday, June 17th

Impact:  Some students, faculty, and staff were unable to access myPoint.uwsp.edu and received an error indicating the webpage was unavailable.

Resolution:  The issue was resovled by 8:10 am Wednesday, June 17th.  If issues are still occurring, please report them to the Help Desk.

Incident:  UWSP MyFiles, Department network shares outage and myPoint Outage

 

Incident Start: The UWSP MyFiles, Department network shares outage started about 7 a.m.  The myPoint.uwsp.edu outage began around 8 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22.

 

Impact: 

UWSP MyFiles/Department Network Shares Outage:

·        Some Faculty, Staff, and Student MyFiles (private, and inetpub folders for students) are unavailable

·       Some Department Share Directories (example:  Drive S:) are unavailable

 

MyPoint Outage:

myPoint.uwsp.edu experienced a brief intermittent outage that lasted approximately 10 minutes. 

 

Resolution:  Our Technical Operations team is currently working to resolve the myFiles/Department Network Shares Outage.  The myPoint issue has been resolved. 

 

Next Update:  Additional information will be posted via email and/or Campus Announcements as it becomes available.

Incident:  UWSP myFiles and some department network shares issue.

 
Incident Start: Tuesday, March 17th  5:00 am
 
Impact:  Students will be unable to access their myFiles Private and Inetpub folders and some faculty and staff will be unable to access their department network folders.  Included below is a list of affected department network shares.

Title:  UWSP Web Sites and Intercampus SharePoint Sites Issue
 
Incident:  We have discovered  an issue with the UWSP web pages and internal Share Point sites.
 
Incident Start: Tuesday, March 10th  3:00 pm
 
Impact:  UWSP web pages and intercampus SharePoint sites may load slowly or not at all.    
 
Resolution:  Our Technical Operations Team are currently working to identify the cause of the issue.  Until this has been identified and measures implemented to mitigate the issue, users may experience intermittent outages.

​Mass Email Regarding Tax Form Information

Earlier today an email was sent by the University's Accounts Receivable Office to all students using a distribution list.  Regrettably as a result of user error the email was incorrectly sent causing all students to be listed as recipients.  A number of students "replied to all"  causing all students to receive more emails and which then resulted in an overload of the University email server.

The Information Technology team is aware of the problem and is addressing the issue.  The mail server is back online now but mail transport may be delayed for the next couple of hours as this situation is resolved.  

We are sorry for any inconvenience that this incident caused our users and we will be reviewing our procedures to ensure that this does not happen again in the future.

Incident: Intermittent Campus-Wide Printing Issue
Incident Start: June 19, 2014, 3:00 pm
Impact: Some departments are currently unable to print.  Print jobs appear to sit in the print queue with “error – printing”. 
Resolution: Technical Operations is currently investigating the issue.

Update 6/19/14 8:00 am:  UW Madison has reported that as of 4:30 am this morning all production systems have been restored.  Additional information is available on the UW-Madison DoIT Twitter page https://twitter.com/uwdoit.

 

​Update:  Reported by WiscNet:""Description: An intense storm passed through the downtown Madison area at approximately 8:00am this morning, knocking out power. One of our datacenters in Madison lost power and network engineers were subsequently evacuated due to apparent electrical safety issues. These events happened during a live tornado warning. 

As of 10:00am electricians and network engineers are back in the datacenter assessing the situation and working to bring everything back up. We do not currently have an ETA on restoration of services at this time; our best rough estimate is that this outage will persist into the afternoon."

 

Incident: Services hosted out of Madison are currently off-line as a result of a power outage.

Impact: Services affected include, but may not be limited to,
Desire2Learn, My UW System, WISDM, and the UW Madison Website.

Resolution: At this time we have not received information from Madison on an estimated time for resolution from this incident.

Incident Start: Monday, May 12, 2013, 2:00 pm
Impact: Some Watson Hall residents and visitors are unable to connect to the UWSP network (wired and wireless) due to a failing network hardware.  Residents and visitors may notice a yellow triangle over their Internet access icon located in their computer system tray or upon opening their web browser, they were unable to visit any websites.
Resolution: UWSP IT engineers are currently addressing the issue.

Campus Wireless Network Updates

​UWSP IT technicians will be working with HP technicians on campus from Tuesday, April 22 through Tuesday, April 29 performing hardware and software updates to the wireless network.The purpose of this work is to enhance the performance of the wireless network. Throughout the duration of this work, there will be sporadic and intermittent outages of the Wi-Fi network. These outages are planned for the early morning hours to minimize the effect on classes and business operations. IT & HP technicians will be on site to ensure all aspects of the wireless network are performing as expected once the updates have been completed.

Hansen Hall Network Connectivity Issues (wired and wireless)

Incident: Hansen Hall Network Connectivity Issues (wired and wireless)
Incident Start: Wednesday, March 19th, 2014
Impact: Some Hansen Hall residents and visitors have been unable to connect to the UWSP network (wired and wireless) due to a network conflict.  This conflict was the result of network maintenance performed the week of spring break, and did not begin affecting residents until a large number of devices were simultaneously connected to the network.  Residents and visitors may have noticed a yellow triangle over their Internet access icon located in their computer system tray or upon opening their web browser, they were unable to visit any websites.
Resolution:  The conflict was identified and resolved at 4:40 pm on Tuesday, April 8th, 2014.

Neale Hall Ethernet Outage

03/10/2014 1:49pm:  System Administrators have identified the failed modules and replaced them.  The Outage is resolved and users again have network access. 

03/09/2014 6:31pm: ​A switch in Neale Hall has gone down due to hardware failure.  Our technicians are currently looking into the issue but do not have an estimated time as to when this will be resolved.  This will only effect some of the students in Neale Hall using the Ethernet connection in their room.

12/11/13 Update: Some wireless infrastructure issues have been identified and IT engineers are in the process of making a few adjustments to the resident hall wireless network for the start of the spring semester. 
 
10/15/13 Update:  UWSP technicians will be working with HP technicians on site at the halls Tuesday, 10/15 from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  Throughout the duration of this work, there will be sporadic and intermittent outages of the Wi-Fi network.  The purpose of the work is to further troubleshoot the current wireless network performance issues that are being experienced in these residence living halls.

09/25/13 Update:  Please be advised that UWSP technicians will be working with HP technicians on site at the halls Wednesday, 9/25 from 10:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.  Throughout the duration of this work, there will be sporadic and intermittent outages of the Wi-Fi network.   The purpose of the work is to further troubleshoot the current wireless network performance issues that are being experienced in the residence halls.  The technicians appreciate your understanding and patience during this work.
 
09/13/13 Update : The hardware manufacturer has further narrowed this to impact only a particular wireless transmission.  Our engineers continue to work with the manufacturer to develop a fix, but no estimate to resolution is available yet.

09/9/13 Update :  The issue has been narrowed down to a hardware problem.  Engineers are working with the manufacturer to resolve the issue.  At this time we do not have an estimated time for resolution of this incident.  

09/05/13: Engineers are currently on site working to resolve the problem.  At this time we do not have an estimated time for resolution of this incident.

Incident Start: Tuesday, February 11, 2014, approximately 1:50 PM.
Impact: Students, faculty, staff are unable to access the network or network resources at Treehaven.
Resolution: At this time we do not have an estimated time for resolution from this incident. Information Technology engineers are working on the issue.
