Can I use Word for web authoring?
Q: Can I use Word as a Web Authoring tool?
A: Although Microsoft Word supports the creation of web pages, many problems may arise when Word is used as a web authoring tool including:
- Adding “extra” and unnecessary code "behind" the page (this coding is used to make a Word document appear to be a web page).
- Making larger files, which load more slowly
- Increasing difficulties with editing and formatting due to aforementioned unnecessary coding
- Increasing problems viewing pages in browsers other than Internet Explorer
Information Technology staff suggests avoiding using Word whenever possible to create/edit web pages. Use a standard web authoring tool such as Expression Web, DreamWeaver, or GoLive.
