Personal Bibliography
Appalachian Daughter
I am of this land, this culture, these clans.
I grew up exploring, unearthing, and daydreaming
Under the protective shadow of the Buffalo.
Fleeing my hillbilly roots,
I set off to disprove everything my “snuff-dipping,
Apron clad,” granny taught me.
After 30 years of “concrete jungles,
Yankee arrogance and educated fools,”
I find she was right!
Peace comes with being the “common woman,”
Of rural life, family and the land.
My memory of morning biscuits baking,
Wood fire warmth and porch-swing vistas
Pulls me home.
I long to steward the land for daughters to come,
While finding an apron of my own.
Namaste!
