THESIS AND PROJECT OPTIONS

Choose from one of three options: Thesis , Project, or Examination Option.

  1. The student should meet with their advisor to make initial plans for the thesis or project.
  2. After the student and advisor have agreed on preliminary plans for the thesis or project, the student should prepare a proposal using the Proposed Plan: Thesis or Project Form.
  3. The student should initiate a committee meeting at which time the proposal will be discussed and approved. All members of the committee must approve the plan before implementation. The proposal should be distributed to the committee members at least one week prior to the meeting.
  4. The student should work closely with the advisor in the preparation of the thesis or project. Committee members may be called upon for assistance as needed.
  5. Upon completion of the thesis/project, the student should, in consultation with his/her advisor, schedule a meeting for the purpose of defending the thesis/project.
  6. A signed copy of the thesis/project defense form must be submitted to the Graduate Coordinator upon successful completion of the thesis/project defense.
  7. A copy of the thesis or project should be provided to each member of the committee at least 2 weeks prior to the oral examination.

ORAL COMPREHENSIVE EXAMINATION

  1. Following completion of the thesis or project, each student must take an oral comprehensive examination. This examination will focus on the major ideas of the thesis or project as well as related concepts.
  2. It is the responsibility of the student to schedule the examination at the appropriate time in order to meet the deadlines as indicated in the UWSP Graduate catalog.
  3. The committee members must agree that performance on the oral examination is acceptable. Approval of the committee must be indicated on the Thesis or Project Defense Form.

COPIES OF THESIS/PROJECT

  1. Submit one copy of the completed thesis/project to:
    1. Room 101 – CPS Building
    2. Your advisor
    3. Each committee member

    These copies do not have to be commercially bound, although an appropriate cover is required.

  2. The following information is for those students who have completed a thesis:
    1. Besides submitting to individuals listed above, students are required to deposit a bound copy of your thesis at the University Library in order to complete your graduate degree.
    2. You may have your thesis commercially bound or the Library offers the service of binding the thesis for $9.00 a copy.
    3. Pay the binding fee at the Main Circulation Desk on the first floor of the University Library if you are using the Library’s binding service.
    4. Deposit copies of the thesis and complete the binding information form in Room 12 in the library basement.
