Admission Requirements
All applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited university or college and an undergraduate grade point average of 2.75 or above (based on a 4.0 scale). Probationary status may be granted to students with a grade point average below 2.75.
The following courses or equivalent must be completed with a grade of “C” or better prior to admission:
- CHEM 260 (Biochemistry)
- FN 106 (Introductory Foods)
- FN 457 (Advanced Nutrition and Human Metabolism).
Note that CHEM 260 and FN 457 are advanced science courses requiring prerequisite classes. Check the UWSP catalog for course descriptions and prerequisites. The number of additional courses you need will be determined by previous science courses you have taken. Contact UWSP Registration and Records to determine if a course at your undergraduate institution is equivalent to a UWSP course. The Transfer Information System has a list of UW college and WI Tech College course equivalents.

Application Procedure
The first step is to apply for graduate study at UWSP. This involves completing an application, submitting a $45 application fee ($60 for foreign applications), and sending official transcripts to the Admissions Office.
The second step is to complete the following and send to the graduate program in Nutritional Sciences:
- A current resume or curriculum vitae.
- A letter of intent detailing your background qualifications, career goals, and how this program fits into your future professional plans.
- GRE (Graduate Record Exam) or 5-10 years of professional baccalaureate work experience.
International graduate applicants need to send the following items in support of their applications:
- UWSP International Graduate Student Application for Admission form
- $60 graduate application fee + USD $50 express courier fee ($110 total) by check payable to "UWSP"
- Official academic records (transcripts) from each postsecondary institution attended
- Certification of English Language Proficiency (TOEFL or IELTS scores) when necessary
- UWSP Financial Support Statement accompanied by an original bank statement or letter verifying funds on deposit
- A photocopy of the biographic information page from the applicant’s passport
Deadlines for Application
Applications are accepted at any time and will be reviewed during the first week of every month. Candidates will be notified of the results shortly thereafter.
