Program
We'll spend seven days/five nights on beautiful Lake Garda nestled in the Italian pre-Alps; its location gives Lake Garda a very Mediterranean microclimate that nurtures lemon and olive groves. After leisurely strolls in scenic Malcesine, we'll hop on boats to explore its other beautiful communities: the citadel-like town of Sirmione, romantic Desenzano on its southern shores, and beautiful Garda and Riva on the western and northern shores. We will enjoy more challenging hikes on and around Monte Baldo above Malcesine, and take the cable car up to explore the many trails on Malcesine’s surrounding mountains. Verona's gorgeous historic center boasts the house of Romeo and Juliet, and an amphitheater where great operas are staged. We'll stay five days/three nights in Bassano del Grappa on the banks of the mighty Brenta River. It is a very quiet and beautiful little town in the pre-Alps known for its Grappa and its ceramics. We'll enjoy walks in and around town and hikes into the surrounding mountains. The last four days/three nights of the trip will be in Venice. In “La Serenissima” (the Most Serene One) we can glimpse the city’s glorious past in its Doge Palace and many of its other villas as a mighty seafaring nation that dominated part of the ancient and medieval world. The islands of Murano (with its glass-blowing workshops) and Burano (known for its lace-making) as well as the canals are testament to Venice’ s industriousness and engineering accomplishments past and present.
