Adventure Tours

Program

Travel lightly and ride at your own pace; there are suggested routes but the choice of distance is yours. Choose the most direct route or meander through the pastoral interior and the rugged coast of this island paradise.  Cyclists abound on the Island (1415 sq. miles) which is home to the early season training camps of several professional cycling teams, drawn to the "Isle of Calm" by mild weather, excellent roads and a superb ambiance. Luggage transport and mechanical assistance for bikes are provided.  Hiking options also are numerous on the island.

We’ll start our trip just south of the capital city of Palma, along the beach with easy access to quiet roads leading to the interior of the island.  The rolling hills are interspersed with (optional!) climbs. From flat to very challenging routes – the choice is yours.  The Tramuntana Mountains provide a scenic background.  Palma’s cathedral is one of Europe’s largest and is perfectly poised with its front to the port.

Next we head to the eastern coast, to Porto Cristo with its lighthouse and guarded bay.  Day trips to the Caves of Arte or Drac, deep and haunting, or to Felantix, another town cresting a natural puig and providing access to the lofty Satuari de Sant Salvador Church and Monastery – what a view!

We next head north skirting the Sierra de Tramuntana range, past walled Alcudia, a medieval gem with charming small shops and restaurants nestled in the city’s protective fortifications, to Port de Pollença. This port town offers immediate access to a coastal bike path and Roman ruins.  From here some of the most famous of Mallorca's legendary bike rides begin -- the trek out to the Cap de Formentor lighthouse is unforgettable.   We’ll next head back to our starting point south of Palma.
