Bring your family & friends out to the inaugural Ciclovia WI on Sept. 22, 2012, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. This non-competitive event is a FREE open-to-the public bike/pedestrian loop around the city of Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Following the lead of similar events in Bogota, Columbia, Portland, OR, NYC, and Madison, Wis., this statewide event will include safe travel throughout a 7 mile loop that runs within the north side of Stevens Point, "Active Rest Stops" such as FREE Zumba and FREE Yoga classes, Kids Zone, vendors, FREE bike maintenance & demos, a FREE skate jam, and more...

The main goals of the event are to:
  • Get people active while exploring the City of Stevens Point.
  • Increase participant knowledge about healthy living in Central Wisconsin.
  • Raise awareness and acceptability for non-motorized travel (bicycling, walking, rollerblading, etc.) within the City of Stevens Point.

For free, participants can join in the fun of travelling this looped route by riding their bike, walking, jogging, pushing a stroller, by wheelchair, skateboarding, rollerblading, etc. It will be a great way to get families out of the house, enjoy a fun, active, and wellness event, and patronize businesses along the way. Participants will get to experience many of Stevens Point's iconic scenery within City Parks, Schmeeckle Reserve, UWSP, the renowned Green Circle Trail, and more... There is no start or finish to the route as it is a loop that anyone can enter at any point along the route and travel in either direction.

It's important to note that the roads along the route will not be closed to motor vehicle traffic for this event (as with other similar events). Participants who follow the route on city streets should remain aware of all vehicles and follow all traffic laws to ensure the safety and success of the event. And, to increase the safety of the event there will be stationed informational volunteers, Bike Ambassadors, "Active Rest Stop" volunteers, and Intersection Guides. And, the Stevens Point Police Dept. is aware of the route and event details along with there being EMS support that day. Yet, as always, we strongly reccommend that bicycle riders wear helmets.

Local partners & supporters (Active Portage County, Stevens Point Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, UWSP, Portage County CAN, and other local volunteers) will assist UWSP Adventure Tours in further development of Ciclovia WI. The event also has strong support from the Stevens Point Mayor, the Portage County Executive, SP Police Department, WI Bike Federation, UWSP, and more...
