Theme: A broad consideration of the emergence and growth of global human rights following the adoption of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Invited keynote speakers include Marjorie Agosín,
a well-known spokesperson for the plight and priorities of women in developing
countries, and Sara Roy, a senior research scholar at the Center for Middle
Eastern Studies at Harvard University.
Submissions are invited that address the themes of the Universal Declaration, including:

| Arbitrary arrest, detention or exile |
Right to freedom of movement and residence |
| Right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion |
Freedom of opinion and expression |
| Peaceful assembly and association |

| Economic, social, and cultural rights |
Right to be treated with dignity |
| Right to education |
Right to health and wellbeing |
Papers are welcomed that address any of these themes from a variety of disciplinary perspectives including art, history, sociology, psychology, religion, geography, business, economics, law, political science, education, and pedagogy.
Paper presentations: Individual presentations shall be twenty minutes in length and time will be allowed for discussion within sessions.
Abstract Deadline: April 1, 2010. Abstracts of no more than 250 words should be submitted electronically to the conference chair, Deborah Buffton at UW-La Cross at buffton.debo@uwlax.edu by the deadline. They will be blind-reviewed by conference reviewers. Authors will be notified by April 30th.
A special session on Human Rights and the Curriculum is planned for Saturday, October 8, 2010. Following a keynote address by Bob Peterson, editor of
Rethinking Schools, there will be paper sessions and a workshop on integrating human rights into the public school curriculum.
