The Department of History administers both the Social Science and the Broad-field Social Science majors at UWSP.
The Social Science major is an interdisciplinary program in that all courses are taken in departments in the individual social science fields: anthropology, economics, human geography, history, political science, psychology, and sociology.
The Social Science major (without teacher certification) consists of the following:
Broad-field Social Science
The Broad-field Social Science major and minor for teacher certification are multidisciplinary programs in which students take courses in the fields of anthropology, economics, human geography, history, political science, psychology, and sociology. Students select a major or minor in one social science discipline and then take additional courses in two or more of the other social science fields for breadth.
The goal of this major is to produce social science teachers for Wisconsin's primary and secondary schools. Placement of Broad-field Social Science majors and minors from UW-Stevens Point is usually at least twice as high as the state average because entrance into the School of Education is highly competitive.
Sample Program of Study for the Broad-field Social Science Major with teacher certification (secondary/middle):
