Colleen Evans
Associate Professor - Physical
Courses Taught Colleen Evans has been in education since 1980 and brings many years of elementary school teaching, high school coaching, and consulting experience into the college classroom. In 2002, Evans had the opportunity to join the faculty at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point. Here she is able to work in her area of expertise: physical education teacher education and curriculum and instruction. She has a strong background in technology in education and has implemented many workshops, teacher inservices, national presentations and developed undergraduate and graduate courses in technology. She has also helped many school districts update their curriculum to include technology and help students monitor their lifetime fitness goals using current technology. Evans has also been involved in playground safety issues and worked with schools and communities in Kansas and Wisconsin to strengthen their playground supervision rules and manuals along with playground equipment and fall surfaces. Evans earned her Doctorate in Philosophy degree in education from The University of Kansas in 1996 and began her collegiate career at the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh in 1996. During her tenure at UW Oshkosh she taught in the physical education major and coaching minor. In the year 2000, her career took her back to Kansas where she taught at Wichita State University. Evans taught secondary physical education teaching methods while developing technology in physical education courses for undergraduate and graduate students. Prior to joining higher education, she taught elementary physical education and coached high school cross country and distance track events in the Kansas public schools until 1993. She also coached an elementary jump rope demonstration team that performed for many athletic events and other special events. Evans earned a Master of Science Degree in Education from The University of Kansas 1989 and her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Northern Montana College (now University of Montana – Northern) in 1980. Colleen Evans now enjoys cycling and other outdoor sports in Wisconsin. She particularly enjoys traveling by bicycle throughout the United States and world. She has joined five UWSP adventure cycle tours. She has two grown children and one granddaughter.
