Climbing Wall - Wall Rules
University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point students must present a valid UWSP ID prior to climbing.
ALL CLIMBERS MUST HAVE A WAIVER ON FILE BEFORE THEY WILL BE PERMITTED TO CLIMB.
All participants under the age of 16
MUST
be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
You must be at least 14 years old to belay.
All belayers must complete belay school or be checked off by an instructor before they can belay, NO EXCEPTIONS!
For bouldering, the climber is not to climb any higher than the second line of quickdraws.
Solo climbing is NOT permitted and all climbers must be protected by a top rope belay or sport route belay, unless bouldering.
Climbers must use proper safety equipment when engaged in roped climbing. Harnesses, ATC’s, and locking carabiners are available to use at the wall, and shoes are available for rent. The Climbing Wall staff has the right to deny the use of personal equipment if they feel it is unsafe.
Adult and kid helmets are available upon request but are not required for top rope or lead climbing.
Kid’s harnesses are available upon request.
Sandals/bare feet/socks are not permitted on the climbing wall.
Climber and belayer harnesses must be DOUBLED-BACK at the waist buckle.
A
re-traced figure 8 with a barrel or fisherman’s knot as a back-up
must be tied directly into the climber's harness via 2 tie-in points.
A belay device must be attached to the belayer's harness by means of a locking carabiner.
ALWAYS
check and double check the climber's knot, harness and the belay system before each climb.
The adjustment or rearrangement of holds is not permitted. The holds will be changed periodically by the Climbing Wall Staff, your suggestions for change may be directed to them.
Proper climbing/belaying commands should be used.
The use of chalk is allowed in any form.
For safety reasons, the wearing of jewelry during climbing is discouraged.
