Adapted Physical Education

Introduction

Teaching individuals with disabilities is one of the most rewarding professions a "people person" can engage in. Students are advised to explore this option by volunteering in Special Olympics, and/or Special Needs Aquatic Program (SNAP) to work with individuals with disabilities.

Students who complete the Comprehensive Physical Education major can choose to complete the Adapted Physical Education 860 Add-on Certification (12 credits). This option better prepares students working in schools that have disabled students.

Benefits of UWSP

Higher likelihood of employment with the 860 Add-on certification in Adapted Physical Education.

UWSP possesses a wide array of facilities to accommodate disabled and special people, including a warm water therapeutic swimming pool.

Students in PEX benefit from the opportunity to work in a number of high quality programs for individuals with disabilities located in the Stevens Point community.
