Academic Staff - UW-System Regent's Nominees for Individual Excellence and Program Excellence

INDIVIDUAL EXCELLENCE

UWSP is honored to recognize Maggie Beeber as the UWSP 2009 Regent's Individual Excellence Award nominee. The Academic Staff Regents Awards for Individual Excellence recognize two outstanding academic staff members from the UW System with a $5,000 monetary award.

The following criteria are utilized in selecting recipients:

  • Excellence of Performance
  • Personal Interaction
  • Initiative & Creativity
  • Outstanding Achievement

Maggie Beeber has served UWSP since 1991 as Coordinator of Undergraduate Advising in the School of Education and has served as the UWSP Teacher Certification Officer since 2003.

Her commitment to excellence is described by her nominators:

  • "Maggie is considered by her university system peers to be among the most knowledgeable in the state about advising and licensing issues."
  • "She helps this campus eliminate some possible public relations nightmares by watching out for her students."
  • "Her impact upon her students and colleagues serves as a testament to the key role academic staff play in the educational mission of the University of Wisconsin System...."
  • "Her faith and confidence in their abilities to succeed, along with her leadership and collaboration with the Project Forward, Title VII grant and the DPI Refugee Teacher Training Grants have opened the way for the many Hmong Americans who have successfully completed our programs and are now teaching in classrooms in our region."
  • "I believe that the quality of Maggie Beeber's work on a daily basis is the single best reason as to why she deserves this award."

PROGRAM EXCELLENCE

UWSP is honored to recognize the Wisconsin Center for Environmental Education (WCEE) as the UWSP 2009 Regent's Program Excellence Award nominee. The Academic Staff Regents Awards for Program Excellence recognizes an outstanding non-instructional academic staff program from the UW System with a $5,000 monetary award.

The following criteria are utilized in selecting recipients:

  • Excellence of Performance
  • Initiative and Creativity
  • Outstanding Achievement

The Wisconsin Center for Environmental Education was established by the Wisconsin state legislature and UWSP in 1991.  The Center was placed in the College of Natural Resources, but has a statewide mission toward the development, promotion and evaluation of environmental education in Wisconsin K-12 schools.

The WCEE's commitment to excellence is described by its nominators:

  • "In addition to serving Wisconsin residents, the WCEE can claim the outstanding achievement of being a national and international model for the development of environmental education."
  • "Never content to rest on its laurels, the WCEE has continued to develop innovative programs and offer the foremost support to the field of environmental education through the development of excellent resources, much-needed online courses and - perhaps most importantly - the sharing of expertise throughout the country and the world."
  • "Partnerships and other collaboration are a hallmark of the Center.  WCEE staff and programs are involved at many levels with:  the Wisconsin Association for Environmental Education, the Wisconsin Environmental Education Board, the Wisconsin Environmental Education Foundation, Wisconsin Focus on Energy, the Wisconsin DNR Division of Forestry, and many others."
  • "The WCEE faculty and staff have worked endlessly to establish outreach opportunities for Wisconsin's teachers and youth."
  • "Recently, an Environmental Science Teachers Network has been created by the Center and now serves to connect hundreds of teachers around the state and region who previously were without this assistance."
