Penokean Granitic Intrusions (1800 Ma old)

The final stages of the Penokean orogeny were marked by numerous granitic intrusions. The fact that these were confined to the volcanic arc terrane indicates that both subduction zones dipped beneath the arc. In the north especially several gneiss domes were intruded as well. These are probably remobilized continental crust and their limit probably marks the southern limit of Superior Province continental crust beneath the volcanic arc.
