soil water (soil moisture)

Soil water is water held in the pore spaces between soil particles. Soil water is composed of hygroscopic water, capillary water, and gravity water. Soil water is the water that is immediately available for plant use. Soil water is located in the zone of aeration which dries out during the year, unlike the constantly saturated groundwater zone.
