saltation (wind)

Sorry, no image yet

Saltation refers to a bouncing like motion when the wind dislodges sand particles, suspends them in the air for a short period of time and then fall to the surface. The impact of the falling grains dislodges additional sand that is sent in the down wind direction. Saltation occurs on the windward side of dunes.
