Net radiation is the difference between the incoming and outgoing radiation. Between 40o N and 40o S the earth possesses a net gain of energy. Poleward of 40o N and 40o S there is a net loss of radiation. Redistribution of heat if accomplished by ocean currents and the global circulation of the atmosphere.
