Preparing for Exercise 4
Atmospheric Pressure, Circulation and Wind

By the end of the lab period you will complete parts 1 and 2 of Exercise 4 "Atmospheric Pressure, Circulation and Wind".

Before coming to lab....

Carefully read through all the introductory material for Exercise 4 in the lab manual, especially the information about how pressure gradients, wind direction and speed are depicted on a weather map. Also read Appendix A "Isolines" and Appendix C "Profile Construction" in your manual. You should review your lecture notes for the "Atmospheric and Oceanic Circulation" lecture and bring them to lab. Pay special attention to the factors that create wind and surface flow around highs and lows. Don't forget to bring a calculator.
