Preparing for Lab 1
Earth Sun Geometry and Insolation Intensity

In Exercise 1, "Earth - Sun Relations and Insolation Intensity", you'll explore how the earth's spatial relation to the sun affects insolation at the earth's surface. This will be accomplished by comparing and contrasting the conditions at Belize City, Belize (a low latitude location) and Minneapolis, MN (a mid-latitude location).

Before coming to lab....

Before getting started on the exercise, read the Web Text section "Earth-Sun Relations", review your lecture notes for "Earth - Sun Relations and Solar Energy". It's especially important that you learn the Earth-Sun relations during the different seasons (especially dates and their associated sub-solar point). Carefully read through the introductory material to the exercise in your lab manual paying particular attention to the worked examples of noon sun angles.
