This sample came from the railroad cut west of the Wisconsin River in Stevens Point. It is typical of the Cambrian sandstone that underlies much of west-central Wisconsin. Largely lacking fossils, and unreactive with hydrochloric acid, the original sand was probably deposited by wind.
