Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute (CDRI)/McDonald Observatory

The Mc Donald Observatory has evening Star Party Tours.  We may do this the night we stay at Davis Mountains State Park.

The Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute Museum near Fort Davis has exhibits of the Chihuahuan landscape and its cultures.  Our visit to it will precede a stop at the Big Bend Museum in Alpine later that day.

 

• OBJECTIVES       [BACK]

  • The Big Bend Museum and the CDRI should put into context the many landscape features after you will have observed them firsthand.  They also may provide opportunity to obtain additional data.

  • The Mc Donald Observatory affords a pleasant opportunity to observe celestial phenomena, and the technology for doing so, in the clear night skies of the desert. 

• Special Recommendation:  STAY WITH THE GROUP!  We will not delay the entire group for a few stragglers.  If you miss the bus, you also miss the remaining museum stops, and we will simply pick you up enroute back to Chisos campground.  [BACK]
