STRUCTURES

Geologic Structures include folds, such as anticlines and synclines, faults and joints. Below are illustrated an anticline and syncline pair from the Silurian age rock in northwestern New Jersey (Green Pond Inlier). Anticlines have two limbs that dip away from the center (hinge) and contain the oldest rocks in the hinge. Synclines have two limbs that dip towards the center (hinge) and contain the youngest rocks in the hinge.
