CLASS 2: STRATIGRAPHY
Stratigraphy concerns the study of rock layers with respect to space (spatial position and orientation) and time (temporal aspects). Stratigraphy is very important and forms the basis of the science of geology. Stratigraphy also involves a concept geologist refer to as "Relative Dating". This phrase may conjure up odd jokes and images of kissing cousins to some, but to geologists the phrase refers to distinguishing the age relationships between contiguous rock layers.
