Donations Support Student Research

In October 2009 a 1980 Geography alumnus donated $2000 to the Department Foundation account, to be used in part to support travel to present research at professional meetings by current students in the majors. Some of this generous gift supported seven students presenting at the April 2010 Association of American Geographers annual meeting in Washington DC.

In March 2010 an anonymous donor gave $1500 to the Department Foundation account, to be used to support Geoscience and Geology students’ research and professional development. This was the second such gift in as many years. In 2009 the same donor enabled eight students and two faculty to attend the 55th annual conference of the Institute of Lake Superior Geology. The 2010 generosity supported students doing field research in Wisconsin, Wyoming, and Iceland.

In July 2010 a community member donated a personal rock and mineral collection valuing over $12,000 to the Department for exhibit and classroom use. This also may be rotated periodically into the Museum of Natural History exhibits.

Our deepest gratitude to these and all other donors!
