First-Year Experience

New Student (Freshmen) Orientation


 

REGISTERING FOR AND ATTENDING ORIENTATION:

 
  1. Orientation for students beginning their first semester at UW-Stevens Point in September 2014 is held during the summer.  Each student is required to attend one orientation date (each orientation is a one day event).
  2. In order to register for orientation, you must have paid your $100 enrollment deposit. If you have not yet paid your enrollment deposit, click here to pay your deposit online. You will not be able to proceed until this is paid.
  3. Click on the orientation date you would like to attend on the calendar below to register for orientation.  You will be prompted to login with an account you might have already created to attend an event at UW-Stevens Point, or create a new account.
  4. After you have registered to attend an orientation session, you will receive a confirmation email.  Please reference the e-mail for specific orientation information.
  5. Placement Testing must be done prior to your arrival on campus (preferably by May 1).  Sign up here for placement testing.

Notice: There are no orientation sessions during the month of July. Also note that the orientation session in August is the final session; this should only be considered if none of the sessions in June fit into your schedule. Please understand that course selection at the final orientation will be limited.

PLANNING YOUR TRIP:

 

Check-in Time: 7:15 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. (You may check in at any point during this time)

 

Check-in Location: Dreyfus University Center (DUC) Encore Room.  The DUC is building # 40 on the campus map.

 

Program Information: The orientation program begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 5:00 p.m.  Plan to stay for the duration of the program.  (Each June Orientation session follows the same schedule).  Click here to view the June Orientation Schedule.

 

Meal Information: 

 
  • Breakfast: Continental Breakfast is available from 7:15 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. during check-in.
  • Lunch: Lunch will be available in our Dreyfus University Center Food Court (for an additional cost) during the orientation program. 
 

Driving/Parking Information:  When you arrive on campus please park in lot X (a parking permit is not needed).  Lot X is located on the corner of Stanley Street and Fremont Street.  Parking in any other lot could result in a parking ticket. To best assist you with your travels to campus, feel free to type in your address here to get driving directions.

 

Housing Information: Some guests might choose to stay on campus the night before their orientation or the night of their orientation to avoid early and late travel on Orientation day (staying in town/on campus is not required). When you register for Orientation you will have the option to register to stay on campus in Baldwin Residence Hall.  Cost is as follows: Single Room Rate per night- $35.00, Double Room Rate per night- $24.50 (per person).   Your fall student bill will include these room charges. 

 

Photo ID: Please bring a government-issued photo ID (driver's license, state ID, passport, or military ID) with you to receive your UW-Stevens Point ID Card (PointCard).​

 

Disability and Assistive Technology Needs: Students with disabilities who are interested in registering for Disability Services (DS) at UWSP, have a few options:

 
  1. Schedule and attend a half-hour evening meeting following their orientation, between 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.
  2. Schedule and attend a half-hour meeting the following day between 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.
  3. Set up an individual appointment at a later date
 

The program, referred to as Leading Edge includes an overview of the Disability Services program, Assistive Technology options, documentation information and a one-on-one planning meeting that takes place the week before classes begin.  For the purpose of definition, any student with a medical, physical, psychological, learning or sensory disability may qualify for Disability Services at UWSP.  For information and application to Leading Edge program or to set up an appointment, contact the Disability and Assistive Technology Center (DATC) at (715) 346-3365, or email datctr@uwsp.edu.  During orientation you will take an English Writing Assessment.  If you qualify for test accomodations for this assessment, contact the DATC well in advance.  You can also visit our website. 

 

 


 

 

OTHER INFORMATION:

 

Program Fee: Orientation program fees cover the cost of student and parent materials distributed at orientation and continental breakfast. These program fees are covered, in part by a $175.00 matriculation fee that will appear on your fall student bill.  In addition to covering the Orientation program costs, the matriculation fee funds Convocation, Commencement as well as First-Year Experience expenses.

 

Canceling Admission: If you are not planning to attend UWSP and with to cancel your application, please e-mail your request to cancel your admission to: admiss@uwsp.edu
