Welcome to Japan Student Services Organization Scholarship (JASSO)

UWSP students are invited to apply for a JASSO scholarship to attend Dokkyo University in Japan. The next scholarship to be awarded is for one academic year beginning in September 2008.

In 2008-09 the JASSO SHORT-TERM STUDENT EXCHANGE PROMOTION PROGRAM (INBOUND) SCHOLARSHIP includes the following:

(1) Monthly stipend: 80,000 yen per month (up to 12 months)

(2) Relocation allowance: 150,000 yen (Upon arrival only).*

(3) The term would be from 3 months up to 12 months. (A full academic year is customary at Dokkyo University).

* This (2) is a change. Air tickets will no longer be provided by the scholarship. Instead of this, Relocation allowance will be increased from Yen¥25,000 to Yen¥150,000.

Additional information:

  • JASSO stands for Japan Student Services Organization.
  • Dokkyo University is a partner institution of UWSP. Since 1988 it has sent groups of students here to study for a summer and has sent individual students here for a full academic year.
  •  Since 2002, six UWSP students have previously attended Dokkyo University through this scholarship for one academic year, from September to July.
  • Students without any Japanese language training can be accepted as JASSO scholarship students. They will be in the Japanese class for beginners. Obviously some knowledge of the language is a definite advantage.
  • Credits earned at Dokkyo University transfer back to UWSP, usually 15 credits per semester.
  • You may visit the Dokkyo web site at www.dokkyo.ac.jp  Click on the English version of their home page and then click on “International Exchange.”
  • If you are eligible for financial aid from UWSP it may be possible to transfer these funds to Dokkyo University through a consortium agreement.
  • The Selection Committee at UWSP will select the JASSO scholar and recommend her/him to Dokkyo University no later than April 11, 2008.
  • Application deadline: March 14, 2008.
