Scholarships for International Students

The UWSP Foreign Student Office (FSO) offers scholarships to qualified international undergraduate students. Awards are based on three major criteria: (1) academic performance while a UWSP student, (2) contributions to cultural diversity, and (3) familial/sponsor support plus on-campus employment. More than 50% of international undergraduates receive FSO scholarships each semester.

First time applicants for undergraduate admission may apply for an FSO scholarship if they have outstanding academic records and strong involvement in extra curricular activities. The application form must be accompanied by: (1) a personal statement and; (2) two letters of reference from instructors.

  • The personal statement should include information regarding the applicant's academic performance and co-curricular involvements during secondary school (high school) as well as comments indicative of the applicant's plans for study and co-curricular involvements while at UWSP.
  • The instructors' letters of reference should demonstrate familiarity with the applicant's academic performance and co-curricular involvements.

FSO scholarship awards are applied to and reduce the non-resident portion of recipients’ tuition and fees. Even with the maximum award, recipients of FSO scholarships are subject to Wisconsin resident tuition and fees.

The Foreign Student Office does not offer scholarships to international graduate students. Prospective international graduate students should inquire with their intended department’s Graduate Coordinator for information regarding departmental and university scholarships and assistantships.
