Students may be certified to teach Foreign Languages or English as a Second Language by satisfactorily completing a major or minor and the appropriate Foreign Language Education courses:
333/533 FOREIGN LANGUAGE EDUCATION
Teaching Second Languages. 3 crs. Prereq: junior/senior standing and admission to Professional Education program or consent of instr. Second language acquisition theories, methods, techniques, planning, organization, assessment, and field experiences in teaching foreign languages in elementary, middle and secondary school. Requires 30-60 hours field experience in the schools.
344/544 FOREIGN LANGUAGE EDUCATION
Teaching English as a Second Language. 3 crs. Prereq: junior standing and admission to Professional Education Program, or consent of instr. Theories of second language acquisition; methods, techniques, planning, organization, assessment, and field experiences in teaching English as a second language. Requires 30-60 hours field experience in the schools.
397 FOREIGN LANGUAGE EDUCATION
Practicum. 1-3 crs. Prereq: consent of instr. and chair. Practical experience as tutors, teacher's aides, etc.
398 FOREIGN LANGUAGE EDUCATION
Student Teaching in a Foreign Language. 1-16 crs. Observation and teaching under the guidance of cooperating teachers and university faculty.

Special Work. 1-3 crs. Prereq: Consent of chair and instr. Individual study in second language teaching methods under faculty supervision.
