Introduction to Literature. 3 crs. Prereq: 313 and 314 or by placement exam. Each subtitled course, I or II, may be taken once. Poetry, drama, and prose by representative authors. Focus is on intensive rather than extensive reading and work includes class discussions, written exams, and brief reports and/or papers in the foreign language.

La literature de los chicanos. 3 crs. Prereq: one 300-level Spanish literature course or consent of instr. An advanced literary course that deals with the poetry, narrative, drama and essay of Chicano writers.

Los dramas de la latinoamerica contemporanea. 3 crs. Prereq: one 300-level Spanish literature course or consent of instr. An advanced literary analysis course that deals with one-act contemporary dramas of Latin America.
493 FRENCH, GERMAN and SPANISH
Specialized Studies. 1 to 3 crs. Prereq: one 300-level literature course or consent of instr. A subtitle will designate the focus; may be repeated for credit under different subtitle. Focus is determined by the instructor offering the course, i.e., a literary genre or group, a recurrent theme in literature, a single author, or a comparison of two or more authors. Typical offerings: "French Literature in Its Cultural Setting," German Poetry from the Middle Ages to Present," "St. Petersburg in Russian Literature," "Coming of Age in Golden Age Spain."
