ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE MINOR (TEACHER CERTIFICATION)
School districts are hiring more and more instructors of English as a Second Language. Along with other areas of the United States, Wisconsin is becoming a culturally and linguistically diverse state. The objective of ESL Certification is to train prospective teachers to meet this need. In addition to meeting certification requirements of the Professional Education Program, the following requirements apply:
A. Two semesters of college-level foreign language (or test-out)
B. Proficiency in English
C. English 342, 345, or 344
D. Communicative Disorders 266 or English 240
E. 3 credits from:
History 130, Sociology 270, Sociology/Anthropology 343, French 381, Spanish 382, Anthropology
310, or Anthropology 320.
F. To be chosen in consultation with your advisor:
- Choose one: English 200, 274, 275, or 375
- Choose two: English 355, 356, 381
G. Foreign Language Education 344 (fall semester only)
H. Foreign Language Education 398-Student Teaching or as appropriate Foreign Language Education 397-Practicum (3 credits)
