Elia J. Armacanqui-Tipacti, a native of Peru, is an Assistant Professor of Spanish UW-SP in the Department of Foreign Languages. She received her B.A. in History from Universidad Mayor de San Marcos, in Lima and a second B.A. in Elementary teaching from Escuela Superior Juan XXIII, in Ica, Peru. She obtained her M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a specialization in Latin American literature, Medieval and Golden Age literature with an emphasis in Colonial Literature. She also holds a minor in Portuguese and Brazilian literatures. Professor Armacanqui-Tipacti has worked extensively on nun's manuscripts from the colonial period. She considers this type of research to be a means to uncover the silenced women's voices from the past. Among her various scholarly efforts is her book Sor María Manuela de Santa Ana published in 1999. Professor Armacanqui-Tipacti has also published several articles on Women's manuscripts during the Colonial Times in Peru.
