Congratulations to Professor Elia Armacanqui-Tipacti for receiving the UW-System Women of Color in Education Award, which she will receive on October 13th in Madison.

September 27th, 2013: The North Central Council of Latin Americanists Regional Conference will take place at UWSP Friday September 27th to September 29th. Here is the promotional poster.

April 6th, 2012:Congratulations to Professor Daniel Breining, who was recently promoted to full professor.

April 5th, 2012: Congratulations to Professors Alek Toumi and Daniel Breining! Professor Toumi received the University Excellence in Teaching Award. Professor Breining received the University Scholar Award.

February 18th, 2012: The German Section of the Department of Foreign Languages hosted the 2nd annual German Speaking Contest. Those students who qualify can go onto the State competition taking place on March 31st at Marquette University in Milwaukee. Contact Thomas Leek or Sabine Beirold for more information on this contest or future contest.

November 10th, 2011: Congratulations to Professors Dan Breining and Tobias Barske! The Department of Foreign Languages recently voted to promote Dan Breining to Full Professor and to award Tobias Barske tenure.

September 1st, 2011: The Department of Foreign Languages would like to welcome Vera Klekovkina to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where she begins as Assistant Professor of French in the fall of 2011.

June 2nd, 2011: The Department of Foreign Languages would like to welcome Antonio Valle de Anton to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where he will begin as Assistant Professor of Spanish in the fall of 2011.

May 9th, 2011: Congratulations go to our Chair, Richard Ruppel, who recently was awarded the University Service Award!

April 4th, 2011: On August 1st, students from Magdeburg, Germany will be arriving in Stevens Point for a three week program. The Magdeburg Summer Visit Program is looking for host families and provides some reimbursement for hosting expenses. If you are interested in hosting a student or two, please contact Thomas Leek for more information (office phone number: 715-346-2379.

February 25th, 2011: The next Foreign Language Placement Exam for French, German, and Spanish can be taken between April 11th and 15th, from 9:00am until 3:00pm. The exam is adminstered in CCC 305, the Foreign Language Lab. The exam takes about one hour. Students should bring a student ID and a #2 pencil. The exam is free of charge if taken in this time frame. Students who must or wish to take the exam at a different time should contact Testing Services in Delzell Hall, 715-346-4472. The cost of taking the Foreign Language Placement Exam is then $20.00.

February 19th, 2011: The First Annual German Speaking Contest for high school students took place on February 19th and was a great success. We had eight students from Marshfield Senrior High, Appleton Area School Disctrict and Assumption High School. Pictures to come.

November 12th, 2010: Professor Tobias Barske and students Ryan Keel, Liana Weichelt, Natalie Glaze, Katherine Conor, Beth Lindenmeyer, and Heidi Flees gave a presentation on Novemer 6th at the Wisconsin Association for Language Teachers in Appleton.  The title of the presentation was "From Student Teaching to Teaching Students."




November 1st, 2010: Professor Elia Armacanqui is the coordinator for Latino and Friends in Solidarity with the Catholic Multicultural Center in Madison. Read about it in the Wisconsin State Journal.

October 29th, 2010: Come celebrate Día de los Muertos with the Spanish Club! A reception will take place on November 1st from 4:00 to 7:00 in the Carlsten Art Gallery. There will be food and music as well.  Students have prepared altars for display.

October 26th, 2010: Erin Keniry, a senior French major, is the 2010 recipient of the Michelle Slater Scholarship. Felicitations Erin!

September 20th, 2010: Join us at the Boy Scout Lodge in Iverson Park on the evening of September 23, at 5pm for the annual Foreign Languages Picnic.

July 24th, 2010:  German students from the Otto von Guericke University of Magdeburg and Japanese students from Dokio University will be arriving at the beginning of August.

April 27th, 2010: Congratulations to Professor Richard Barker. He was awarded the University Scholar Award for his book El Largo Trauma de un Pueblo Andaluz.

April 26th, 2010: German major, Emily Zuleger won a English Teaching Assistantship from the Fulbright program. She will be in Germany in the academic year of 2010-2011.
