Our Mission
The mission of the Department of Foreign Languages is to provide rigorous and diverse courses of study to prepare
students both linguistically and culturally to become global citizens. The
study of foreign languages, literatures and cultures:
- provides a foundation for critical thinking and communication;
- stimulates the intellectual development of the individual as a whole;
- develops in depth knowledge of a particular culture that will enable
students to function in an international setting, be it in firms in Central
Wisconsin, in the U.S. or abroad;
- prepares future language educators for Wisconsin Schools;
- imbues students with knowledge and an appreciation of the cultures they are
studying, in an endeavor to increase their overall cultural sensitivity as
part of their global preparation.
