The federal regulations mandate that all resources received by the student be considered in the analysis of the student's need. This becomes an ongoing effort as most scholarships given to students at UW-Stevens Point are awarded in other places (academic departments, the Admissions Office, external agencies). We do all our tracking of any such awards here at this station.

When we learn that a student has been awarded a scholarship or grant, we immediately add it to the student's data for the year. If the scholarship is known prior to our determining aid eligibility and making an aid award, we will be able to offer correct aid at that time, and no further adjustment will be necessary. If, on the other hand, we don't learn of the scholarship until after we have made an aid award, an adjustment will have to be made which usually results in a reduction of the original aid offer-- not fun, but we have to do it.

Additionally, when students are chosen by the federal government to have their data verified, the student is so notified by the government to turn in copies of appropriate tax return forms and to provide additional verifying data about family size and other items. At least 30% of our students are selected for this activity each year (either randomly or because some of the data falls out of tolerance with a specified government parameter). If you have to provide this information, your forms will be logged onto our computer system immediately upon receipt at this station.

All of these activities are handled adeptly by Charlotte Harvath, Processing Specialist. In addition, she monitors the Academic Excellence Scholarship program to insure that all eligible students are processed in as timely a fashion as possible. It is hard to imagine anyone with a more helpful spirit than Mrs. Harvath-- she's what used to be referred to as a "real trooper," always ready to pitch in when there is a need. Don't be surprised to see her out in the work area helping with the weekly processing or even across the hall at the reception facility, it just depends where we need her help that day.
