Financial Aid Issues:
• If you are considered “independent” for financial aid exclusively on the basis of being a veteran, bring a copy of your DD214 to the financial aid office. (Another way of saying this is: If the only question in Step Three of the FAFSA you answered “Yes” was the veteran question, drop a copy of your DD214 by.)
• If this is the first time you applied for aid at UWSP as a veteran or your veteran’s benefits have significantly changed since last submission, drop a copy of your veteran’s educational benefits by the Financial Aid Office. (Call 1-888-442-4551 and request that they send you a Veteran’s benefit award letter showing the type of benefit, the monthly amount of your benefit, and the number of months of your remaining eligibility.)
• If your income before coming to school was significantly higher than your income while in school, you should submit an Unusual Circumstances form. Access it online here or call the Financial Aid Office and request a hard copy. If you fill out a hard copy, return the form to the Financial Aid Office.
Veterans Affairs Information: If you have been activated for Title 10 duty for at least 90 days, then…
• Contact the local County veterans service office. They will need a copy of your DD Form 214 (member 4 and a member 1 copy, if possible) to help establish your eligibility for WI Dept. of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) tuition and fee reimbursement grant.
• After the office establishes you are eligible and your information gets put into the database (for first time users there will be some delay) you will need to apply online here . For each term or semester you would like reimbursement you will need to fill out an application online at the above address.
