Each week we bring in new and corrected data directly from the federal government processing center. We bring this data in over the Internet into our computer system. This fast and accurate process gives assurance that we will receive your data in as timely a fashion as is possible. Usually within a week after receipt, we'll have a response out to you. All of our downloading of data is performed at this station.

When students are selected for verification and their materials are logged in to the system, they must be reviewed, and changes made where appropriate. When changes must be made, we work directly with families to assist them in correcting their files, and we transmit corrections on their behalf directly back to the government. It is critical that this all be done accurately and in a timely fashion. In some cases, when the need for immediacy is great, we can initiate an entire file from scratch and transmit it to the government. We entrust all of this activity to Leone Pierce, Assistant Director. She is our specialist in the downloading of data, the transmission of corrections, and the verification of information received.

UW-Stevens Point has one of the largest enrollments of Native American students in the state of Wisconsin. Work is done at this station to insure that these students receive any and all special assistance they need, especially with regard to the Wisconsin Indian Assistance program and the Tribal Education Grant program. All related authorization for assistance in these programs, requiring both state and tribal contact, is handled here.

In addition, student awards under the Talent Incentive Program (TIP) and the Wisconsin Higher Education Grant program are administered at this station. For both of these programs, awards and supporting information must be coordinated with state agencies. Students who are candidates for the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) awards are monitored at this station to insure that any award they may receive from that source is coordinated with federal and state aid that may be offered.

At most institutions, all of this activity would probably be split among several staff members. But when you're good, you're good! Mrs. Pierce somehow gets it all done working by herself. Obviously, the University is the benefactor of her high level of efficiency. This is one person you don't want to try to con-- she knows her tax forms, and she knows how to interpret them!
