Financial Aid

Grants and Waivers

IMPORTANT: (ACG) and (SMART) Grant Information
Federal Pell Grant (Pell)
Eligibility is determined by the U.S. Department of Education. The specific award amount depends upon credit load, residency, and whether the student lives on or off campus or with parents. If any of these factors change, an award adjustment may be necessary. The student receives a Student Aid Report (SAR) after applying, directly sent from the U.S. Department of Education. The SAR can be used to make corrections to incorrect data. The corrected form can either be sent to the Federal Student Aid Program processor (address on form) or turned into the UWSP Financial Aid Office, where we are equipped to make corrections on the student's behalf. This grant is only for undergraduate students.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
Eligibility is determined by the University according to federal rules that tie the grant to Pell Grant eligibility and low level of assessed family contribution. This grant is only for undergraduate students.

Tribal Education Grant (TEG)
For Native American students, the amount is actually awarded by the student's tribe based upon information provided from the Financial Aid Office regarding the student's financial need. The tribe determines the award when an Indian Scholarship Form is submitted to them.
Lawton Retention Grant (LMRG)
These awards are made to Wisconsin and Minnesota undergraduate diversity students with at least sophomore standing and a 2.00 GPA.
Department of Vocational Rehabilitation Grant (DVR)
For physically-challenged students, the amount awarded is determined by the Wisconsin Department of Vocational Rehabilitation based upon information provided by the Financial Aid Office regarding the student's financial need and other aid awarded. Students must apply directly at the district DVR Office. The Financial Aid Office will estimate the student's DVR grant eligibility before awarding loans and adjust the estimate when the final award is made by the DVR office.
