Financial Aid

FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions)

1. How do I get financial aid?
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online, or on paper form. Forms can be picked up at the financial aid office.
2. Why didn't my aid for the semester come in?
There are several requirements that need to be completed before a student's aid can be applied to his/her account. First, the original award letter needs to be signed, either in paper copy or electronically. Second, if the student is taking out Stafford Loans or Perkins Loans for the first time he/she needs to complete the Master Promissory Notes for each type of loan. Third, the Stafford Loans require the student to watch the Entrance Loan Counseling presentation online. If the student was chosen for Verification, he/she needs to complete those forms and submit them to the Financial Aid Office, along with copies of the previous year's 1040's and all W-2 forms.
3. Can I convert my work-study money into a loan?
This is possible in certain situations. Contact the financial aid office to find out if your situation applies.
4. The financial aid awarded to me from the FAFSA is not enough to pay my bill. How can I get money to pay the rest of my tuition?
Dependent students already receiving the maximum amount possible for his/her grade level can take out additional loans: the parent PLUS loan or an alternative loan. Independent students have the option of taking out alternative student loans or additional Stafford Loans. For either of these options, contact the financial aid office for more information.
5. Where do I get a pin number to sign my FAFSA and Master Promissory Notes for Perkins and Stafford loans?
If you need a PIN number, or have forgotten/lost your current PIN, apply for a new one HERE.
6. Do I have to fill out a new FAFSA every year?
Yes, each school year your financial aid eligibility is re-determined.
7. How do I get my work-study money?
In order to receive work-study money, the student must have a work-study job. The federal money is used to pay the wages.
8. Why didn't I get as much aid as last year?
Each year's aid is based on the previous year's income information. Any changes in family income, student income, investments, number of family members in college, or a change in federal regulations can lead to a decrease in aid.
9. What if my income has changed since I filled out the FAFSA form?
Complete an Unusual Circumstances form online, or on paper at the financial aid office. A counselor will review the current financial situation and increase aid if possible.
10. What if I got married after I filled out the FAFSA? Can I change my status from dependent to independent now that I'm married?
No, you cannot change your dependency status after you file. Wait to file a FAFSA until after you're married if you want to file as an independent student using only yours and your spouse's information.
11. What happens to my aid if I'm less than a full time student?
Certain types of aid are credit sensitive. Please check with the financial aid office to see how dropping below full-time status would affect your individual situation.
