As residence hall students prepare to move out at the end of spring semester extra refuse is generated. To accommodate the type and amount of waste disposed, the normal four and six yard dumpsters are replaced with roll off dumpsters.
The dumpsters are brought in two weekends prior to the final move.
Resource Recovery, Surplus Sales and Residence Hall Association sponsor a good will campaign at the end of each semester. The thrust of the program is to assist charitable organizations and reduce the amount of waste sent to the landfill and ultimately reduce the cost to dispose of waste during this period of time.
Carts, labeled Good Will Campaign, are placed in the lobbies of residence halls to collect items.
These carts are for donations of clothing, bed linens, towels, books / magazines, notebooks, games, toys, sporting equipment, small appliances, unopened toiletries and sealed nonperishable food. Games, toys, sporting equipment, and small appliances must be in working order. Unusable clothing, bed linens and towels are also acceptable.
Unacceptable items in residence halls include: garbage, furniture, televisions, microwaves, computers, large appliances and loft materials.
During the last three weeks of spring semester, residence hall students may drop off furniture (in good condition), lofts, wood, bicycles and televisions, computers, microwaves and refrigerators that are in working condition at Surplus Sales. Surplus Sales is located at 601 Division Street (next to Hardees). The dock (facing Isadore Street) is available to receive items from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday through Friday during the last three weeks of the spring semester.
Revenues generated from student donated items are used to support residence hall activities.
The Good Will Campaign receives support through posters and student message of the day by Residence Hall Association, public service announcements from student radio and television stations and articles in the student newspaper.
