University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is located in the community of Stevens Point, in the heart of Wisconsin.  Stevens Point was incorporated in 1858 and became the county seat of Portage County in 1868.  Today, Stevens Point is a city of about 25,000 in a metropolitan area of nearly 69,000.

University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has a long and proud academic tradition offering associate, bachelor and several master degrees.  The university was established in 1894 as Wisconsin State Normal School.  Due to curricular changes it was renamed in 1926 to Central State Teachers College, in 1951 to Wisconsin State College at Stevens Point, in 1964 Wisconsin State University at Stevens Point and finally in 1971, University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

The campus consists of 324 acres; 13 residence halls; 12 administrative and service buildings; 10 academic buildings; one student union/dining facility; one dining center and one fitness center.  Located at the north campus is the 196 acre Schmeeckle Reserve, an arboretum, which also provides hands on learning experiences.
