Grounds Services

The Grounds Services team consists of five full-time employees twelve students and one student intern. The internship is a great opportunity for a student to get supervisory skills and management techniques needed after graduation

Grounds Services is responsible for maintaining and improving 86 acres of turf, approximately two acres of annual flowers beds, and sixteen acres of perennial shrub beds.

Some of the high maintenance areas include the baseball field, soccer field, softball field, and four football fields used for the UWSP football team.

General duties include:

1. Mowing grass
2. Painting the football, soccer, and intramural fields
3. Pick-up litter
4. Pruning and maintaining campus trees
5. Maintaining an extensive irrigation system which covers nearly all of the turf area on campus.

Projects that are accomplished or in progress from 2003 include (click on links to learn more about projects):

1. Landscaping around parking lot Q.
2. Renovation of the Student Recreational Fields.
3. Renovation of the campus Softball field.
4. Landscaping the South side of the Debot Center.

Future projects for 2004 include:

1. Installation of a new retaining wall on the north side of the CPS building.
2. Continue renovation of the campus Softball field.
3. Installation of landscape design around the recent Fine Arts building addition.
4. Installation of a Rain Garden on the South side of Old Main.
5. Installation of new landscaping Student Services Building.
6. Continue renovation of the Student Recreational Fields.

The major goal of Grounds Service is to provide a safe environment for students and staff, while creating an exterior that is aesthetically pleasing.
